Doctors Shocked To Discover An 18-Inch-Long Vegetable Lodged In The Rectum Of A 60-Year-Old Farmer, Requiring Immediate Surgery

The patient, from Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh, India, called an ambulance to his farm on Sunday, July 21, due to severe stomach pain.

At the hospital, an X-ray revealed that a large vegetable, known locally as a bottle gourd or lauki, had been forced into his rectum and was causing significant abdominal pain.

Surgeons at the District Hospital Chhatarpur (DHC) performed a two-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove the foreign object.

The hospital has launched an investigation to determine how the incident occurred.

Dr. Nandkishore Jatav, who led the surgery, explained, “The patient first went to the Mission Hospital, where the physician declined to treat him. He then came to the district hospital.

After a thorough examination, we found that his blood sugar level was extremely high (544 mg/dl). The surgery was performed once his sugar was controlled with medication.

During the procedure, the large intestine had burst, but it was repaired, and a temporary stoma was created through the abdomen.”

Dr. Jatav added that the examination revealed the bottle gourd in the rectum, which led to complications when a membrane burst during the surgery. With the help of two additional doctors, the 18-inch vegetable was successfully removed.

The elderly man is now in stable condition and recovering well under medical care.
