Five people RUSHED to hospital as fires engulf takeaway and block of flats

Five people were hospitalised withsmoke inhalation in north London Thursday morning after a takeaway went up in flames – as in the northwest of the capital homes were evacuated when a block of flats also caught fire.

Around 100 firefighters rushed to a fire at a takeaway restaurant in Holloway, north London, at 3.45am.

London Fire Brigade said the ground floor restaurant was destroyed and the roof collapsed while two flats on the first and second floors of the building were damaged on Seven Sisters Road.

Meanwhile, ten fire engines evacuated people from Lyncroft Gardens, a block of flats, in West Hampstead, after a fire broke out at 3.09am.

London Fire Brigade said on social media around 70 firefighters were at the fire on a roof in West Hampstead, which took more than two hours to bring under control.

Terrified residents described the moment they had to help neighbours flee their homes as the Seven Sisters Road fire engulfed the area.

Martyn Poynton, 45, helped locals who had to escape from several flats which had to be evacuated as the takeaway went up in flames.

The causes of both fires is not yet known.
