King Charles and Queen Camilla have shared the sad news of the passing of Camilla’s cherished Jack Russell terrier, Beth.
In a heartfelt social media post on Monday, the palace announced: “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from @Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.”
The announcement was accompanied by touching photos, including one of Camilla walking with Beth in the Highlands and another showing the pup playfully nuzzling King Charles.
A video also captured Beth assisting the Queen during a 2020 visit to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, where Camilla humorously used a sausage to unveil a plaque.
Beth, who had been adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home along with her fellow Jack Russell, Bluebell, was found to have an untreatable tumor and was put to sleep over the weekend.
The dogs were not only loyal companions but also occasional participants in royal engagements, even appearing in an official photo with Charles and Camilla to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary in 2020.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of condolences from royal fans. Comments included messages such as, “So sorry for your loss, Your Majesty,” and “A loss of a pet is so hard. Sending love and good feelings.”
The royal family’s love for dogs is well-known, with Queen Elizabeth II famously devoted to her Corgis throughout her life. The Prince and Princess of Wales also share their home with a spaniel named Orla, after the passing of their previous dog, Lupo, in 2020.
Diane James, Head of Pet Loss Support at Blue Cross, expressed sympathy for the royal family, stating: “The loss of a beloved pet is difficult at any time of year, but it can be especially felt as Christmas nears. At Blue Cross, our Pet Loss Support service provides free and confidential support every day, including Christmas Day, for those mourning the loss of a pet.”
Beth will be remembered as a treasured companion who brought love and joy to the royal household and beyond.
