Lagos State: Government Closes Churches, Hotels, And Other Businesses Over Noise Pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down several establishments, including churches, hotels, bars, and other businesses, for failing to adhere to the state’s environmental regulations.

This action is part of ongoing efforts to address noise pollution and other environmental violations across Lagos.

LASEPA made the announcement in a statement shared on its official X handle on Thursday, November 28.

According to the agency, these establishments were closed for non-compliance with environmental standards, despite having received prior warnings.

The statement read, “In a decisive move to tackle noise pollution and other environmental infractions, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed off several establishments across the state.”

“The operation, which targeted areas like Mushin, Amuwo Odofin, and Okota Isolo, highlights LASEPA’s commitment to ensuring a healthier, more sustainable environment for all Lagosians.”

The list of sealed establishments includes: Daily Bakery, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Gak Universal Allied Limited, Ideal Standard, Franjane Royal Suites, Golden Haven Resort & Suites, Festival Hotel Conference Centre & SPA, FS Service Centre, and Moulin Rouge Ventures at Olivia Mall.

LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards violations that threaten public health and community well-being.

“Environmental protection is a shared responsibility,” Dr. Ajayi stated. “As a government agency, we are committed to enforcing all necessary measures to ensure compliance with environmental laws. Noise pollution, improper siting of hazardous facilities, and other infractions have a significant impact on public health and quality of life. We urge businesses and individuals to prioritize compliance and adopt sustainable practices.”

Dr. Ajayi also encouraged Lagos residents to report environmental violations through LASEPA’s official channels, stressing the importance of collective action to protect the environment.
