New York: A Knife-Wielding Man Is On A Random Stabbing Rampage Leaving Two Men Dead And A Woman In Critical Condition

A knife-wielding man went on a random stabbing rampage in Manhattan on the morning of November 18, leaving two men dead and a woman in critical condition, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams and police officials.

The 51-year-old homeless suspect, who has a history of eight prior arrests, was apprehended with the help of a cab driver, a good Samaritan, said NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny. No additional suspects have been identified, Adams confirmed during a briefing.

“This is a tragic example of how the criminal justice and mental health systems continue to fail New Yorkers,” Adams said, expressing concern over the senseless attack on innocent victims.

The spree began around 8:20 a.m. when the suspect approached a 30-year-old construction worker on West 19th Street near Eighth Avenue and stabbed him in the stomach. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital but later died. The attacker fled the scene.

Approximately two hours later, the suspect struck again on East 30th Street near the FDR Drive, stabbing a man in his 60s multiple times. The victim was also taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Around 10:50 a.m., the assailant attacked a woman on East 42nd Street near the United Nations building, stabbing her in the chest. A cab driver who witnessed the attack followed the suspect and alerted an NYPD officer, helping police make the arrest. The woman was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.

Police found two knives at the scene. The suspect, a resident of the Bellevue Men’s Shelter, was taken into custody at East 46th Street and First Avenue, with charges pending. Authorities believe the attacks were random.
