A herbalist in Kuchibuyi Village, FCT, sustained severe injuries on November 23, 2024, while testing a self-made “bulletproof” charm.
According to SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, the herbalist, identified as Usman, shot himself in the stomach with a shotgun during the test. The charm failed to provide protection, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
Police officers from the Byazhin Division responded to the scene and found Usman in critical condition.
He was immediately taken to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for advanced treatment.
A search of Usman’s residence uncovered the homemade firearm and various charms involved in the ill-fated experiment.
Investigations are ongoing, and he faces charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, emphasizing the dangers of illegal firearm use.
“This incident highlights the grave risks of reckless behavior. We urge the community to refrain from such dangerous practices,” he stated.
