Charlamagne Tha God, a well-known American radio host, believes that Kendrick Lamar would dominate Lil Wayne in a rap feud if the two ever faced off lyrically.
Despite their previous collaboration on “Mona Lisa” from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V, tensions have been building between Kendrick and Wayne in recent months, particularly after Kendrick was announced as the headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show in Wayne’s hometown of New Orleans next year.
As the rivalry has intensified following Kendrick’s latest album, GNX, Charlamagne shared his thoughts on the potential outcome of a rap battle between the two hip-hop giants during an appearance on The Breakfast Club on Monday, December 2.
Charlamagne stated: “Look, Lil Wayne is one of the top five MCs of all time. But he doesn’t want any problems with Kendrick right now. And the reason he doesn’t is because emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, Lil Wayne isn’t on the level to go up against Kendrick. Kendrick would break down Lil Wayne’s entire life in a very therapeutic way [laughs].”
He continued: “It wouldn’t even be a diss; it would come from a place of love. Kendrick would highlight how Wayne played a big role in the rise of the ‘fiend era,’ he would talk about Wayne’s trauma, and maybe even joke about the fact that Wayne only has three dreadlocks. It would be a lot of pressure coming from Kendrick.”
The tension between the two rappers seemed to escalate when Lil Wayne posted on X (formerly Twitter), responding to Kendrick’s mention of him on GNX. In his post, Wayne hinted at the possibility of a feud, writing: “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”
Wayne’s comment was in response to Kendrick’s lyrics on the album’s opening track, “wacced out murals,” where Kendrick referenced Wayne and the Super Bowl controversy.
“Used to bump ‘Tha Carter 3,’ I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down / Whatever, though, call me crazy, everybody questionable / Turn me to an Eskimo, I drew the line and decimals,” Kendrick rapped.
He further referenced the Super Bowl and his position in the industry, rapping: “Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me / All these n-ggas agitated, I’m just glad they showed they faces / Quite frankly, plenty artists but they outdated / Old-ass flows, tryna convince me that you they favorite.”
Wayne had previously expressed his disappointment over not being chosen to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl, which will be held in New Orleans. He admitted that the snub “hurt” him and left him “broken.”
