The parents of Thomas Kingston and his widow, Lady Gabriella Kingston, endured a deeply emotional inquest on December 3rd. The grieving widow revealed that her husband died by suicide after experiencing severe adverse reactions to prescribed medication.
Lady Gabriella, 43, joined Thomas’ parents, Martin and Jill, at the Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court. The coroner acknowledged the emotional toll the inquest would take on the family.
The 45-year-old financier passed away from a catastrophic head injury on February 25th at his parents’ home in the Cotswolds. A firearm was found nearby.
In a heartfelt statement, Lady Gabriella urged for increased awareness of medication side effects. She emphasized the need to prevent similar tragedies from occurring.
The inquest revealed that Thomas had initially been prescribed sertraline and zopiclone by a GP at the Royal Mews Surgery. When the medications proved ineffective, he was switched to citalopram.
In the days leading up to his death, Thomas had stopped taking medication. Toxicology reports indicated the presence of caffeine and trace amounts of zopiclone in his system.
Lady Gabriella described their deeply loving marriage and emphasized that Thomas had never expressed suicidal thoughts. She believes his actions were a result of the medication’s adverse effects.
Thomas’ father, Martin, expressed his confusion and sorrow, stating that his son’s actions were entirely out of character. He questioned whether the newly prescribed medication could have triggered the tragic incident.
The coroner concluded that Thomas took his own life due to the severe impact of the medication. The evidence presented by his wife, family, and business partner supported the notion that he had not intended to harm himself.
Thomas was the son-in-law of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. He married Lady Gabriella at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle in 2019.
In a joint statement, Lady Gabriella and Thomas’ family paid tribute to him as an exceptional man who brought joy to the lives of many.
Thomas’ private funeral was held at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace, with the Prince of Wales among the mourners.
Lady Gabriella has moved back in with her parents at Kensington Palace. The couple was last seen together on February 14th at an event celebrating Shakespeare’s works.
