Actress Kerry Washington was celebrated as she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 47-year-old star was joined by her parents, Earl and Valerie Washington, her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, and her close friend, filmmaker Tyler Perry, at the ceremony outside the W Hollywood Hotel on Monday.
In addition to her star, Washington was presented with a plaque that read:”Presented to Kerry Washington on the occasion of the placement of your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. December 2, 2024. Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.”
Later, in an interview with Extra TV, Washington reflected on her journey, sharing words of advice she would give to her younger self.
“I would tell her to try to enjoy the journey,” she said. “To trust that everything is going to be okay in the end. Sometimes we get so stressed about whether life will unfold the way we want it to.”
She also emphasized the importance of gratitude, saying she would remind her younger self to appreciate every moment. Washington paid tribute to her parents during the ceremony, sharing that the star belongs “just as much” to them as it does to her.
“I think this star is all of ours,” she said emotionally. “When I stand here and look at this star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I know it’s only possible because of every director I’ve worked with and every actor I’ve acted alongside.”
Known for her roles in Scandal, Fantastic Four, and Little Fires Everywhere, Washington has made her mark in Hollywood with a diverse portfolio of work. Beyond acting, she is also celebrated for her activism, receiving accolades like the NAACP President’s Award, the GLAAD Media Vanguard Award, and the ACLU Bill of Rights Award.
In 2023, Washington published her memoir, Thicker Than Water: A Memoir, which achieved critical and commercial success. The multitalented actress continues to be a force both on and off the screen.
