President Lula Of Brazil In ICU After Brain Surgery
Health Update: Additional Procedure Following Brain Bleed Surgery By Brazilian President Lula

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underwent surgery in São Paulo to drain a brain bleed caused by a fall at his home in October, according to a medical update released by the government on Tuesday, December 10.

The procedure was successful, and the 79-year-old president is reportedly in stable condition, being closely monitored in the intensive care unit. Doctors are scheduled to hold a press conference at 9 a.m. local time to provide further details.

Lula had an MRI on Monday evening in Brasília after experiencing a headache, which revealed an intracranial hemorrhage. He was then transferred to São Paulo for surgery at the Sírio Libanês hospital.

The president fell at home in late October, suffering a minor brain hemorrhage and head trauma that required stitches. Follow-up tests in early November showed his condition had stabilized.

The injury forced Lula to cancel a planned trip to Russia for the BRICS summit in Kazan, as medical advice recommended he avoid long-haul flights for the time being.
