Princess Kate Shared Deeply Moving Letter Reflecting On The "Greatest Gift" In 'Darkest Times'
The Princess, who considers Christmas one of her favorite times of the year, wrote the letter for guests attending her Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey next week.
In her heartfelt message, Kate describes the festive season as a time for joy and celebration, but also a moment for reflection. She believes Christmas offers a chance to pause, step away from life’s pressures, and embrace love, kindness, and forgiveness—values at the heart of the Christmas spirit.
Kate, who faced significant challenges this year after undergoing major abdominal surgery and being diagnosed with cancer, highlighted “love” as the greatest gift we can give and receive. She emphasized that love is the light that can shine through even the darkest moments.
“We all have something we can offer one another,” she wrote, whether through kind words, a listening ear, or simply being there for someone in need.
This message mirrors sentiments Kate expressed in a video in September when she shared that her experience with cancer treatment reminded her and Prince William of the importance of appreciating life’s simple, yet vital blessings—especially love and connection.
The Princess will be joined by family and friends at the carol service on Friday, 6 December, likely including her children, parents, siblings, and other members of the royal family.
She concluded her message by saying, “This Carol Service is a heartfelt celebration of every one of you, and a reminder that at Christmas, and throughout the year, we must all shine for each other. Because in times of joy and sadness, we are all each other’s light.”
Kensington Palace has shared that the service is meant to focus on the importance of love, empathy, and mutual support, especially during challenging times. The event will celebrate individuals from across the UK who have shown kindness and compassion in their communities.
Among the guests delivering readings are Prince William, Olympian Adam Peaty OBE, and actors Sophie Okonedo CBE, Michelle Dockery, and Richard E. Grant. Special guests, including Lindsey Burrow (wife of the late rugby star Rob Burrow), Sir Chris Hoy MBE, and Paralympians Lizzi Jordan and Danni Khan, will light candles in tribute. The service will feature performances by Olivia Dean, Gregory Porter, Paloma Faith, and JP Cooper, along with the Westminster Abbey Choir.
The Abbey will be adorned with sustainable festive decorations, and a “Kindness Tree” will allow guests to dedicate ornaments to those who have supported them throughout their lives. Additionally, 15 community carol services will be held across the UK throughout December.
