Princess Kate’s Subtle Outfit Swap During Buckingham Palace Visit

The Princess of Wales dazzled on Tuesday during the Qatar state visit, but did you catch her discreet outfit change?

Kate, 42, impressed with her elegant style, debuting a waist-cinching burgundy coat-dress by Alexander McQueen for the royal occasion. However, sharp-eyed observers noticed she wore two versions of the burgundy ensemble just moments apart.

Her first look, worn to welcome the Emir of Qatar at Kensington Palace, featured the tailored burgundy coat adorned with black buttons and unique lapel-like details. She paired the outfit with matching burgundy boots and a coordinating handbag.

Kate’s second oufit didn’t have lapels and featured gold buttons instead of black

Shortly after, Kate appeared in Buckingham Palace’s Picture Gallery wearing a subtly altered version of the outfit. While the color scheme remained the same, she swapped her boots for Gianvito Rossi stilettos in Royal Burgundy suede, and her coat-dress morphed into a streamlined dress with gold button accents and no lapels.

Speculation arose about whether Kate layered the second dress beneath the coat-dress, but the structured design of the first look makes this unlikely.

Though she changed her attire, Kate kept her accessories consistent. She wore a stunning pearl necklace that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. The piece, featuring four strands of pearls with a diamond clasp, was a gift to the Queen from the Japanese government and crafted by Garrard, according to The Court Jeweller.

Her earrings were equally regal—Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings, also part of the late Queen’s collection. For headwear, Kate chose a Sahar Millinery Teardrop Beret with Bow in Burgundy Felt, adding a sophisticated touch.

While Kate exuded daytime glamour during the state visit’s events, she did not attend the evening’s state banquet as she continues a gradual return to royal duties following cancer treatment.
