Singer M.I.A. Alleged Jay-Z Advised Her To Undergo Plastic Surgery Shortly After She Signed With Roc Nation In 2012
Singer M.I.A. has alleged that Jay-Z advised her to undergo plastic surgery shortly after she signed with Roc Nation in 2012.
In a video shared by Livebitez, M.I.A. stated, “Even when I met Jay-Z and I signed to Roc Nation, the first thing he told me to do is get plastic surgery.” She expressed confidence in her decision to decline, adding, “I’m not insecure because I would’ve got plastic surgery if I was.”
The “Paper Planes” artist, whose real name is Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam, dismissed claims suggesting insecurity was behind her refusal.
She argued, “Their argument of, ‘Maya’s f—king insecure, that’s why she needs to f—king massage her ego,’ doesn’t hold up. Ask yourself: what women do you know around [Jay-Z] who haven’t had plastic surgery? All of them have. I’m the only one who didn’t, which already disproves the insecurity claim.”
M.I.A. signed with Roc Nation in 2012 to release her fourth album, Matangi, but parted ways with the label in December 2013 after a dispute over the release of a documentary trailer.
Her comments come amidst unrelated legal allegations involving Jay-Z. In a revised lawsuit, a plaintiff identified as Jane Doe has accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of assaulting her at a 2000 party.
Jay-Z has strongly denied the claims, stating, “It had the opposite effect—it made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion.” Jay-Z also expressed sadness over the toll the allegations have taken on his family.
“My wife and I will have to sit our children down and explain the cruelty and greed of people,” he said, urging the accuser to “file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!”
