The Duchess of Sussex Displays Impressive Spanish Skills While Sharing A Light Moment With Prince Harry In Netflix Documentary
Meghan Markle showcased her remarkable Spanish fluency in the final episode of her and Prince Harry’s latest Netflix project, Polo.
Meghan made a brief but memorable appearance, greeting players at The Royal Salute Polo Challenge.
In a heartwarming clip, Meghan effortlessly conversed with an Argentine player in perfect Spanish. Prince Harry could be heard in the background proudly saying, “She’s fluent in Spanish,” as Meghan explained that she had lived in Palermo Viejo and Las Cañitas, Argentina, two decades ago.
The polo player playfully asked Harry if he also spoke Spanish, prompting Meghan to answer “Yes” on his behalf. Laughing, Harry admitted, “He knows I don’t… a little, a little,” with a grin.
For the event, Meghan donned an elegant ivory silk and hemp Heidi Merrick dress featuring a stylish cut-out, paired with Aquazzura heels, vintage Chanel jewelry, and a Valentino purse.
The charity match brought a friendly spirit of competition as Harry played on the Royal Salute Sentebale Team against his close friend and charity ambassador, Argentine polo star Nacho Figueras, who captained the Grand Champions Team. The event supported Sentebale, the charity Harry co-founded with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho in 2006 to aid children and young people in southern Africa.
Meghan’s Spanish fluency stems from her time interning at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires and studying abroad in Madrid. This wasn’t the first time she impressed royal fans with her linguistic abilities.
During an August visit to Colombia, Meghan demonstrated her skills while addressing an audience in Cali.
At a forum celebrating Afro-Colombian women, she removed her earpiece and delivered remarks in Spanish, saying: “The culture, the history – all of it was a dream – this trip was a dream. I can feel this community, and this is the feeling that is the best thing right now.”
Her heartfelt words earned applause, and she humorously wiped her forehead in relief before switching to English.
Meghan spoke about empowering women and young girls, highlighting the importance of kindness and the role of men in fostering equality: “My mother inspires me, as do the strong women around me. It’s about showing up with love, kindness, and generosity. Ensuring young girls feel heard and raising boys to learn how to listen to them is crucial. My husband is an example of this.”
