Tony Buzbee, Representing The High-Profile Lawsuit Against Jay-Z And Diddy, Is Now Facing A Legal Challenge Of His Own
Former client Matthew Ray Thompson Jr. has filed a federal lawsuit against Buzbee, accusing him of unethical conduct in a personal injury case.
According to court filings, Thompson claims he was injured in July 2023 while working as a deckhand on a vessel that collided with a barge in the Houston Ship Channel.
He hired Buzbee to represent him, and a lawsuit was filed on his behalf in November 2023. However, Thompson alleges that his employer began making automatic payments related to the case, which were sent directly to Buzbee’s firm instead of to him.
Thompson accuses Buzbee of providing funds to him under exploitative terms, claiming the attorney loaned him money at high interest rates, leaving Thompson with less than 40% of the settlement amount. The lawsuit further alleges that Buzbee has a history of similar behavior with other clients.
Although the lawsuit does not specifically reference the case against Jay-Z and Diddy, Thompson’s description of Buzbee aligns with allegations made by Jay-Z earlier this week.
In a statement denying the rape accusations, Jay-Z accused Buzbee of using lawsuits as a means of extortion, threatening reputational harm for financial gain.
Thompson supports this claim, alleging that Buzbee “has become wealthy by exploiting settlements through threats of negative publicity aimed at those who rely on their public reputations.”
Buzbee has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, and his involvement in the ongoing case against Jay-Z and Diddy has already attracted considerable attention.
