A New York banker, Grant Barr, 37, has been discovered deceased after vanishing while on vacation in Spain.

Barr reportedly went missing on January 28 while visiting Estepona in southern Spain with friends and family. His body was found washed ashore on March 3, according to Mail Online.

His family had been desperately searching for him and were devastated to learn just days ago that his remains had been located. In an interview with The Spanish Eye, Barr’s brother, James, revealed that authorities used DNA to confirm the identity of the remains, which have since been returned to the US.

“After a week of back and forth between the courts and the coroner’s office, his remains were released on Friday, and we were finally able to cremate him and bring him home,” James shared. “While thoughts of a worst-case scenario crossed our minds, none of us truly believed this would be the outcome.”

James indicated that his brother likely drowned but did not specify where his remains were found. He expressed frustration that officials failed to mention the discovery of the remains back in March. “It means that the last time we were all there searching for two weeks, he had already been found; however, they didn’t even suggest that they were looking into something,” he lamented.

Barr had traveled to Spain for a sailing getaway after experiencing a breakup. His father, Michael Barr, mentioned that Grant was in an emotional state at the time of his disappearance and may have been dealing with paranoia while struggling to cope with reality.

Days after he went missing, Barr’s pants and passport were discovered near a beach in the resort town, prompting a massive search operation and social media campaigns for help, which ultimately yielded no results.

Following the tragic news, Barr’s brother, Luke, shared a heartfelt message, saying, “Our brother passed on doing what he loved: facing the sea in its magnificent beauty and terrible might.”

Michael Barr expressed his heartbreak, stating, “As a father, my world will never be the same; the same may be true for all who knew and loved him. I ask God for the strength to carry on, with courage and love in my heart, and I give thanks for the prayers and kind thoughts from all who knew and loved him.”
