British media figure Piers Morgan has criticized Michelle Obama for her comments on the deportation policy under President Donald Trump.

In a recent appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Michelle Obama openly expressed her “fears” regarding the treatment of immigrants during the Trump administration. She condemned the racism she believed underpinned the deportation policies and voiced concerns about the plight of people of color in the U.S.

“There’s so much bias, so much racism, so much ignorance that fuels those kinds of choices,” she said. “I worry for people of color all over this country, and I don’t know that we will have the advocates to protect everybody. And that … frightens me, it keeps me up at night.”

However, Piers Morgan was quick to respond, taking issue with the former First Lady’s remarks. He pointed out that Michelle’s husband, Barack Obama, oversaw a record number of deportations during his presidency, claiming that Obama was “the greatest deporter” in U.S. history.

“Her husband was the greatest deporter in U.S. presidential history—kicking out over 3 million people in 8 years. Did THAT keep her up at night?” Morgan tweeted.

The exchange has sparked a renewed debate over the policies of both administrations.
