China has issued urgent evacuation advisories for its citizens in Iran and Israel amid rapidly escalating tensions between the two nations, warning that the spiraling conflict could ignite a broader regional crisis.
In an official notice published on Tuesday, June 17, the Chinese Embassy in Tehran confirmed it had coordinated with Iranian authorities to assist Chinese nationals wishing to leave.
“The Chinese Embassy in Iran has coordinated with the Iranian side to facilitate outbound travel and reminds Chinese citizens currently in Iran to leave the country… as soon as possible,” the statement read.
The announcement comes in the wake of a surprise aerial offensive by Israel last week, targeting strategic sites within Iran. Israeli officials defended the strikes as a preemptive measure to counter Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons—an accusation that Tehran firmly denies.
Beijing Slams Trump’s Interference
Amid mounting tensions, former U.S. President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform, urging residents of Tehran to evacuate immediately—a move that drew swift condemnation from Beijing.
At a press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun accused Trump of inflaming the situation rather than seeking a diplomatic resolution.
“Fanning the flames, pouring oil, making threats and mounting pressure will not help de-escalate the situation. It will only intensify and widen the conflict,” Guo said.
He added that nations with significant leverage over Israel bear special responsibility in preventing further deterioration.
“The Chinese side calls on all relevant parties—especially countries with special influence on Israel—to take immediate measures to de-escalate tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading.”
Citizens Urged to Exit via Land Borders
In tandem with its advisory for Iran, China’s embassy in Israel issued a similar evacuation notice, encouraging citizens to leave “as soon as possible” and to consider traveling overland into Jordan, if safety permits.
“The Chinese mission in Israel reminds Chinese nationals to leave the country as soon as possible via land border crossings, on the precondition that they can guarantee their personal safety,” a statement posted on WeChat read.
The embassy cited growing security concerns, damage to civilian infrastructure, and rising casualties as key reasons for the advisory.
Missile Attacks and International Alarm
The situation deteriorated further on Tuesday as air raid sirens sounded across several parts of Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, following missile launches from Iran. Journalists from AFP reported explosions overhead, with residents seeking shelter in underground parking structures.
International alarm is growing as the conflict threatens to derail nuclear negotiations between Iran and world powers. Trump—whose administration withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018—has called for Tehran to return to talks. However, the renewed military hostilities have severely undermined diplomatic momentum.
Mass Exodus Underway
According to regional reports, over 600 foreign nationals have already fled Iran into neighboring Azerbaijan, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the growing fears of a regional escalation.
