
A 33-year-old man, Fatai Yisa, has been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly stealing 1,570 bags of sachet water, popularly known as “pure water,” valued at N549,500.
According to the prosecution, Yisa was employed as a sales assistant at a water production factory and is accused of diverting the goods between January and June 10, 2025. Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, told the court that the stolen bags belonged to the business owner, one Oluwa Tobi Opeyemi.
Inspector Oriyomi added that the alleged offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. His legal counsel, Barrister Opeyemi Esan, applied for bail, which was granted by Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned until July 10, 2025, for hearing.
