Shocking Abuse Uncovered As Five Children Imprisoned In Locked, Camera-Surveilled Dungeon By Heartless Parents
Authorities in Redstone Township, Pennsylvania, have arrested a couple accused of imprisoning their five children in a locked, dungeon-like room under horrific conditions.
James Russell, 65, and Carly Kahl, 41, allegedly confined children aged between five and 14 in a bedroom secured with three deadbolts and no door handle, preventing any escape. The room was reportedly under constant surveillance, with cameras linked to the father’s bedroom to monitor the children.
State police began investigating in early August after a tip-off, discovering a scene described by Trooper Ally Wilson as “sickening.” The room had boarded-up windows, feces-covered walls, infestations of fleas, very little food or clothing, and no beds. “That’s the only word I can use to describe what those children endured,” she said.

Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele confirmed the children were “basically held captive” and revealed evidence of surveillance and the use of a stun gun against the kids. “There’s absolutely no justification for using a stun gun, which is less lethal but certainly not non-lethal, on children,” he said.
During the investigation, officers also found a stun gun, a replica pistol, drugs, and drug paraphernalia at the home. Court documents allege that Russell forced Kahl to use a Taser on one of the children.
All five children have been safely removed and are now in the care of Fayette County Children and Youth Services. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities looking into the suspects’ network and sources.
The parents face multiple serious charges, including aggravated assault, child endangerment, reckless endangerment, and weapons offenses. Trooper Wilson expressed hope for justice, saying, “I’m hoping these parents go to jail and face the consequences for what they’ve done.”
The investigation was sparked by a courageous family member who contacted ChildLine. Redstone Township is located about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.
